A Visit to the Mission
On 12th April 2011 a group of 9 Theology students of the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol along with their Prefect, Fr. Romeu Godinho went to the villages of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. It was a week's experience in the missions. The tour was well planned by Fr. Lyndon Rodrigues sfx, Superior of the "Mission of Daman".
Starting from Daman, the students visited the mission areas of Sindoni, Chisda, Dudhni, Dapadda and Shelti. At each center they stayed one day and visited the villages coming under that area. At each of the centers the Parish Priests made arrangements to show the villages. After the evening visits, the Eucharist was celebrated along with the villagers in one of their houses. There was great enthusiasm and fervour visible in the people who participated in the Eucharistic celebration. The people were eager to welcome us. There was a lot of interest among the people to grow in Christian faith and this was displayed by way of their life. Although these places are not easily accessible by roads and they do face various difficulties and hardships, this does not hamper their spirit and fervour with regard to their faith. To visit some places one has to travel by small boats and then walk. One of the Priest mentioned to us that once the confidence of the people was lost, it becomes very difficult to win it back. "They are very committed people, once they say yes to any commitment they do it by all means", was a comment made by another priest. It was truly an enriching experience visiting these places and knowing what life in the "missions" is all about.
