Regina Martyrum Church Renovation

The Church of 'Regina Martyrum' in Assolna was in need of attention. The paint was faded, the altar in need of repairs, the floor was also in need of attention, the roof was leaking and shabby; the lighting and sound too needed improvement.

Under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Lucio Dias, the parishioners undertook a brain-storming session in the parish hall. A renovation committee was formed and the work to be done was identified. Subsequently costing / estimation for the work was also done. Quotations were obtained from different sources.

The next step was 'Fund-raising'. Appeals were designed and published in the Church Bulletin 'Krist Raiacho Prokas'.  Appeals were also mailed to parishioners abroad and to well-wishers. The response from the people was spontaneous and soon the funds began flowing in. Donations were received in cash, by cheques, sponsorship of items, etc.. Every family contributed generously according to their capacity.

The Renovation work completed:
All the altars were repaired and painted; The ceiling was repaired and the false ceiling was also renovated and painted; The flooring was changed; The windows and railings were renewed; wiring and lighting work was also undertaken; Benches were refurbished; Pavers were installed outside the church and the outer portion was cordoned; the whole  church was repainted and the altars were gold-plated; All the statues were repaired and painted; Lovely chandeliers were installed; the main doors were repaired and painted. A lot of other work was also done.

Some work is still pending. The bell tower needs to be done. In addition, the sacristy and prayer room are also scheduled for renovation. However, major portion of the renovation has been successfully completed.

All the renovation done has been successful only because of the wholehearted co-operation, generous donations and involvement of the parish priests, renovation committee, parishioners and well wishers. May the good Lord bless all those who have been a source of inspiration and assistance.
