Pilar Sisters elect a New President

Loutolim: During the XVIII General and Elective Assembly, Sr. Luiza Fernandes was elected as the new president of the Pilar Sisters Association (PSA) commonly known as Pilar  Sisters on November 11 at their Headquarters at Loutolim. 29 members of the PSA had gathered from November 4 – 13 November for the General assembly held every two years.
 
Along with Sr. Luiza Fernandes the new team includes Sr. Nancy Baretto from Galgibaga was elected as the first councilor and Sr. Elsa Fernandes from Betalbatim was elected as the second Councillor.

Pilar Sisters formed on September 8, 1988 through the inspiration of the X General Chapter of the Society of Pilar as collaborators to bring the message of Jesus to the Poor and marginalized specially women and children.

Sr. Luiza Fernandes was the Vice President for past four years of the Pilar Sisters. Sr. Nancy Baretto presently serving in the mission of Greater Noida, Delhi and Sr. Elsa Fernandes was working at the New Age Printing Press at Verna.   

The Pilar Sisters presently consist of 48 members working in seven states of India viz. Goa, Nagar Haveli, Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh. 

 The services of the outgoing president Sr. Nina Lopes and Sr. Sabina Sardinha second counselor were gratefully acknowledged by the members of the General Assembly.

 

The 22 year old Association of the Pilar Sisters is moving into the direction to be registered as a Society of Apostolic Life.
