CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF GOD’S WONDER

 
50 years of God’s wonder witnessed, was what was celebrated in the recently held Golden Jubilee Year celebrations at St. Michael’s Convent High School, Vagator-Anjuna.

The Golden Jubilee celebration found it preparation through the nine days novena to their Patron Saint, St. Michael whose feast was celebrated as the heralding of the Jubilee year.  The school saw its beginning in 1962 under the inspiration and guidance of the Late Rev. Fr. Faustino De Souza with a group of sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth whose Congregation he had founded.  The rest became history, as year after year the school grew in leaps and bounds.

The opening of the Golden Jubilee year saw a variety of programmes chalked out from inauguration of Exhibitions of Science, Art and Craft, Culture, Pioneering projects and even a Plant Festival.  The Annual Essay and Elocution Competition for the five society schools was also given a place in the celebration.

The pinnacle of celebrations however was the Concelebrated Mass where in the Archbishop of Goa and Daman Rt. Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao was the main celebrant.  He was assisted by a host of priests.  The Eucharistic celebration began with a prayer dance performed by the students of the school.  In his homily, the Archbishop stressed the need for unity and values.

The Cultural Programme began with the Flag bearer of the school escorting the important dignitaries to their places and after the welcome song, the Headmistress Sr. Libia Fernandes formally welcomed the guests.

In a colourful Cultural Programme that followed, students were provided with a platform to showcase their talents in songs, dances and value based skit.  Goan folk dances that reflect the vibrant culture of  Goa and the traditional Goan Mando especially composed for the occasion closed the programme

During the programme there was the cutting of the Golden Jubilee cake, a PowerPoint presentation of the events of the History of the School entitled “Down the Memory Lane”.  The School’s own website was inaugurated at the hands of the Superior General of the Congregation Sr. Alda Rodrigues .  The Top ranker of the school and the Society schools at the March 2011 Goa Board Examination Mast. Omkar Phadte was felicitated at the hands  of the Archbishop.

Later the Bishop gave his key note address while Mr. Michael De Souza the special invitee who was the School’s First Headmaster spoke tracing the hardships and challenges the school had on its journey to this landmark year.

The programme brought the curtains down with Sr. Pushpa sfn proposing the vote of thanks.  The entire  cultural programme was compered by eight students from the primary to the tenth.  The function was very well attended.
