Catechetical Seminar at Rachol Seminary

The Catechetical Association of Rachol Seminary organized a seminar for the catechists of Margao Deanery on 8th August, 2010 at 3.00 p.m. in the Seminary auditorium. Around 470 catechists participated. To break the ice and set catechists in mood, the seminarians conducted a few action songs. This was followed by the words of welcome by the President of the Catechetical Association, Sem. Benny Costa. The Animator, Fr. Romeu Godinho, presented significant tips on ‘being an ideal catechist’. He stressed that one should have sound knowledge of his work, ministry and responsibility, in order to effectively proclaim Christ to the students.

Placing the theme “Grow in Christian Faith, Live Christian Values” before the gathering, Sem. Marcelin Rodrigues spoke as to how a catechist can be effective in the family, successful in the society and vibrant in the Church. Sem. Dylon D’Costa conducted a workshop, in which he spelt out the qualities required to be an effective catechist. This was followed by a model lesson given by Sem. Constancio Carvalho.

Bl. Joseph Vaz, the great Goan priest, missionary and catechist, to whom the current pastoral year is dedicated, was the focus of a short musical play, written and directed by Sem. Elvis Dias. Bl. Joseph Vaz, who worked as a catechist and proclaimed Christ, inspite of all the odds he had to face, was highlighted as a role model for the catechist of today. Sem. Mansueto Fernandes compered the day’s programme. Sem. Royal Rapos, the co-ordinator of the event, proposed a vote of thanks and brought the heart-stirring seminar to a close.

“It is Christ whom we proclaim warning and teaching everyone in all wisdom” (Col 1. 28).
