Annual Day at St. Xavier’s
St. Xavier’s College and Higher Secondary School celebrated the Annual Prize Distribution Day with a Variety Entertainment Programme on 11th December,2010. The Chief Guest, Dr. Francisco Colaco was welcomed by the Principal, Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sá. A large audience consisting of parents, guardians and students attended the programme. In his speech, the Principal stated that through education one should contribute to bring about peace and to build up a common brotherhood. He further said that through education people should be motivated to respect creation and all that exists on the planet earth. The Chief Guest, Dr. Francisco Colaco, observed that, inspite of technological advances, teachers are indeed indispensable, who should act as facilitators, moderators and performers to mould character and shape the future of the youngsters. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he stated that the destiny of a nation is designed within the four walls of a classroom. Addressing to the students, he reminded them that discipline is the key to success and advised them to be self disciplined. He also had a word of advice to the parents to closely monitor the performance of their child as well as to encourage and boost confidence in the children. He however cautioned the parents to limit T.V. viewing for their children.
An Interdisciplinary Research Journal “Spectrum “ carrying research articles by the faculty of the college was released by the Chief Guest Dr. Francisco Colaco.The Annual Reports of College and Higher Secondary School sections were read out by Vice-Principal, Ms. Ursula Barreto and H.S.S. Principal, Dr. Elvis Gonsalves respectively.
The meritorious students and rankers were given prizes by the Chief Guest, Dr. Francisco Colaco and Prof. Fernanda Colaco. The variety entertainment programme consisted of Invocation Dance, Indian Classical Dance, English group song, a duet “Winds of Change” Cheira Lisboa and a mime depicting the life of Blessed Joseph Vaz and Orchestra of Goa. A play in konkani “Ho Voso Ailo Koso” and a English play “My Wife’s Relatives” were enacted by H.S.S. and College students respectively. At the end, a live crib presentation with Christmas Carols was acted out.
The General Secretary Mr. Salil Rao proposed the vote of thanks while Ms. Lisel A. Solanki and Mr. Eeshan Usapkar compered the programme.
