Agacaim villagers took their Patron to Swindon in U.K.
On Sunday, August 1, at Agacaim, after the first novena Mass of their patron St. Lawrence in their Parish Church, the newly made 1m 6inches image of their Patron St. Lawrence the Martyr was blessed. The ceremony was started with prayer and blessing with Holy water by the Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Mariano Travasso, after which the Parish Priest Fr. Johnsie Colaco blessed the image with Saint's relic (very small piece of bone) which is preserved in the Church.
The image of the saint is carved out of African teakwood within 15 days by Rosario Rodrigues in July 2010, and was inspected by fine artists, wood carvers, historians, Priests and local people who approved the final out come. "Earlier in 2009, Rosario Rodrigues carved out a life size image of Blessed Joseph Vaz which is added in the world famous ‘Procession of Saints’ at Goa-Velha".
The image reached U.K. on August 13, and then, on August 14, parishioners of Agacaim celebrated their Patron’s feast in the ‘Holy Rood Parish Church’ in Swindon. The feast Mass was celebrated by Fr. Francis Menezes SFX. The High Mass was attended by a large congregation, mostly from Goa. The image is offered by Erasmo Gonsalves of Moita.
