St Xavier’s College,Mapusa, in association with the Committee for the Cause Of Canonization of Joseph Vaz organized an essay Competition on the topic “ LIFE OF ST JOSEPH VAZ” , for the students of St Xavier’s College. Twelve students participated in penning down their thoughts on various themes related to St Joseph Vaz like his missionary zeal,his virtues and charisms, his life as true witness to Christ, a model to youth, his love for Jesus,etc.The essay competition provided an opportunity for students to read and learn more about the life of our Goan saint and also reflect on his life to imbibe his missionary spirit.
Sr. Mary Jane was awarded the Rajaya Mahila Samman by the Union Ministry of Women and Child on March 8, 2015 on the auspicious International Women’s Day at a simple but impressive ceremony held at the Goa Secretariat’s Seminar Hall, Porvorim. The Secretary, Women and Child Development, Government of Goa, Shri Manoj Kumar Sahoo was the Chief Guest, Collector North Goa, Smt. N. Mohanan was the guest of honour and the Director, Women and Child Department, Smt. Deepali D. Naik was present. The Yashadamini 2015 and ZillaMahilaSamman 2014 were also conferred on other deserving women.

ROME, March 13, 2015 - During a Penitential Celebration today in St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Francis announced the celebration of an extraordinary Holy Year dedicated to Mercy. The Jubilee of Mercy will begin on December 8th, 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and will conclude on November 20th, 2016, Solemnity of Christ the King.
The Holy Father's announcement was greeted with an applause by those present in the Basilica.

PANAJI: Fr Peter Raposo, former editor of the Pilar Society Konkani weekly VauraddeanchoIxtt, currently teaching at the Ohio University suddenly passed away on 13 March following a massive heart attack.
He was 44.
Society sources said that his end came at 6.30 am IST Saturday after he complained of uneasiness. Though he momentarily improved following medical attention, he eventually collapsed and breathed his last on the way to hospital.
The Caranzalem-born dramatist-musician priest, who played an active role in the production of film-maker Pooja Bhatt’s movie Holiday had completed his Masters in Organizational Communication and Training and Development at DePaul University at Chicago and in 2012, was awarded a scholarship by the Ohio University.
From June 2006 – 2010, Fr. Peter served as the Secretary to Telespore Cardinal Toppo of the Archdiocese of Ranchi in North India where his handling of the post as Secretary drew applause from the Cardinal.
ALDONA: A nun of Goan origin was accorded with the prestigious ‘Stree Shakti Puraskar’ by President Pranab Mukherjee on International Women’s Day, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to society and helping to improve the lives of numerous Indian women.
Sr Mariola Sequeira, who traces her roots to Corjuem-Aldona, was one among six recipients of the award and was presented with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh and a citation by President Mukherjee on March 8, at a glittering ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, hosted the Inter-Collegiate Cycling Championship on 10th February, 2015, that saw 59 Goan student cyclists participating in the event.
